Faerie new to San Diego...

Hello everyone. I just moved to San Diego three months ago from Texas. The RF group in Houston died several years ago, and I was hoping to find faeries here. Does anyone know if there are any groups active in the area? The only thing I've found online had no posts this year except from another newcomer. Well, here's hoping! :)

[For various reasons, I support the International Group (IG), League for the Fourth International instead of the Sparacist League (SL) who put out the following article. One of the biggest reasons for this was the IG's correct orientation in pushing for and promoting the May Day dock strike against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2008 that shut down all West Coast ports. Across Iraq, gay men and boys are being murdered with impunity in a systematic campaign that started following the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and has been intensifying in the last few months. Death squads abduct their victims from the streets, break into their homes or entrap them in Internet gay chat rooms. They are brutalized and interrogated to extract the names of other potential victims before being murdered. The mutilated bodies are dumped in the garbage or hung as warnings in the street, their genitals cut off and the word “puppy,” a derogatory term for homosexual, daubed on their chests. The murderers mete out grotesque and sadistic torture to their victims, sealing their anuses with glue and force-feeding them laxatives, leaving them to an agonizing death. Men are targeted for not looking “manly” enough, wearing their hair too long or their jeans too tight. Malicious neighborhood gossip could bring about a death sentence.

How many have been killed might never be known as many murders go unreported given the entrenched stigma and sense of shame associated with homosexuality. UN officials put the number in the hundreds; the London-based Iraqi group, LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) reported that a total of 680 people have been murdered since 2004, seven of them women. According to the London Observer (13 September), more than 130 have been murdered since the beginning of the year.

The campaign has been largely blamed on Shi’ite militias. However, according to human rights groups, police and security forces and other religious and ethnic vigilante gangs are involved in the murders, from Shi’ites in the south to Sunnis in Baghdad to the Kurds in the north. Boys as young as 14 are shot and killed by the police for being gay.

It is the imperialist occupation that has unleashed the reactionary forces wreaking death and terror on gay men and fueled the ethnic and religious antagonisms engulfing Iraq in an orgy of bloodletting. By some estimates, more than 1.2 million people have been killed in Iraq since the U.S. invasion. And many of those carrying out such slaughter, including against homosexuals, are forces tied to the Iraqi government puppets put into power by the U.S.

It is a measure of the ferocity of the terror meted out to gay men today that they are nostalgic for the life they had under the brutal regime of Saddam Hussein, the bloody oppressor of workers, leftists, Shi’ites and Kurds. As one gay man told Newsweek (26 August 2008), “Those were the most beautiful days of our lives,” adding, “The fall [of Saddam] was the worst thing to happen.” While suppressing all perceived political enemies, Saddam’s regime did not criminalize homosexuality. Through suppression, he stayed the hands of the clerical reactionaries. In the lead-up to the 2003 invasion, we called for the military defense of Iraq against imperialist attack, without giving the capitalist regime of Saddam Hussein a scintilla of political support. All U.S. troops out of Iraq now!

While the crimes of abduction, torture and murder of gays are the work of the reactionary zealots who prowl the streets of Iraq, such crimes are incited and prepared by a vicious crusade demonizing homosexuality as “disgusting,” a “disaster” and “delinquent behavior.” In 2005, top Shi’ite cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a religious decree to punish and murder gay men and lesbians “in the worst, most severe way of killing.” Moqtada al-Sadr ordered that the “depravity” of homosexuality be eradicated. News media have bemoaned the “feminization” of Iraqi men, “endangered manhood” and “spread of the third sex.”

Gays in Iraq are not the only victims under the imperialist occupation. Women, who at least in the cities enjoyed a relative degree of freedom under Saddam’s regime, are driven off the streets, forced into the veil, beaten, raped, beheaded, stabbed, burned and stoned to death in the barbaric practice of “honor killing,” now intensifying throughout Iraq. Their “crimes” include taking off the veil or falling in love with men outside their tribes. In Iraqi Kurdistan, touted by the capitalist media as a secular region, 17-year-old Du’a Khalil Aswad was stoned to death by a mob in the town of Bashiqa in 2007, with 2,000 men watching. She fell in love with a man outside her tribe.

Homosexuality and Arab Culture

In the Near East, the persecution of gays is not confined to Iraq. In March, a 44-year-old gay man was shot to death in Yemen, one of several gay men killed since 2008. Last year, Ahmet Yildiz, a gay physics student, was gunned down in Istanbul. In Iran, homosexual men and teenagers are frequently hanged. Iraqi gay men who sought refuge in Syria have been forced back across the border into the hands of their executioners. Last month, in the “democratic oasis” of Zionist Israel, a semi-theocratic state, a gunman sprayed a gay club with bullets in Tel Aviv, killing two people and wounding more than ten. As we wrote in “Protest Anti-Gay Persecution in Egypt!” (WV No. 801, 11 April 2003), following a vicious roundup of Egyptian homosexuals:

“Across the Islamic crescent, from Morocco to Malaysia, homosexuality is a crime under Sharia (Islamic law), punishable by death in Pakistan, Iran, Yemen, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and ‘liberated’ Afghanistan, among others. It is a measure of the pervasiveness of anti-gay bigotry in these societies that there is no word in Arabic, Urdu or Farsi for homosexual that is not demeaning or derogatory.”

The Near East has witnessed far more tolerant times in regard to homosexuality. During the golden days of Arab culture and learning in the centuries following the founding of Islam, one of the greatest poets of classical Arabic literature, Abu Nuwas (ca. 755–ca. 815) or “father of curls”—so named because he wore his long hair to his shoulders—was openly gay and a court poet. He was famous for his erotic lyrics on male love and wine, a theme that was picked up by the best poets of Persia and Arabia, such as Omar al-Khayyam, Hafiz and countless others. The collection, A Thousand and One Nights, originally included an erotic tale titled “Abu Nuwas and the Three Youths,” which was removed from the 1930 English-language edition. A major boulevard in Baghdad is named after Abu Nuwas; now the reactionaries are planning to change its name.

Even in the 20th century, as Arab culture became increasingly insular and intolerant, there continued to be a current of toleration of homosexuality among major Arab intellectuals. The novels of Egyptian author Naguib Mahfouz, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1988, often portrayed homosexual characters as human beings no different than others. Likewise, such portrayals were also common in the films of the late Egyptian director Youssef Chahine. In his classic 1978 film, Alexandria…Why? Chahine depicts a young Egyptian aristocrat who during the Second World War sought out a foreign officer to kill in an act of “patriotism.” But when a young British soldier is delivered to him, they end up falling in love with each other. More recently, the 2002 novel, The Yacoubian Building, by Alaa Al Aswany and the 2006 film version have both been a subject of controversy in the Near East due to their positive portrayals of homosexual characters.

Marxists and Homosexual Rights

Whether in the benighted East or in the West, persecution and bigotry against gays are not simply a question of backward ideology; they flow directly from a core element of class society: the institution of the family. The family, with its entrenched patriarchy, is the main source of the oppression of women, youth and homosexuals in class society. It embodies societal gender roles that are then reinforced by religious moral codes. The institution of the family is key to capitalist society, which is built upon private property and domination of the ruling class over the workers and the oppressed. The family provides the mechanism through which private property is passed down to the next generation. Alongside organized religion, it acts as a conservatizing force, regimenting the population, teaching respect to authority and instilling a morality that proscribes anything perceived as a threat to the sanctity of the family.

We are virtually alone on the American left in our defense of gays in predominantly Muslim countries. Historically, Marxists have been strong defenders of homosexual rights. In a series of articles in 1895, Eduard Bernstein, a leader of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD), condemned the trial of the great 19th-century writer Oscar Wilde, who was condemned to two years in prison by a British court for homosexuality. August Bebel, cofounder of the SPD, considered same-sex love as natural and aesthetically as noble as “normal” relations. Addressing the Reichstag (parliament) in 1898, he called for the repeal of the German criminal code against male same-sex acts.

But it was the Bolsheviks who gave flesh and blood to the Marxist understanding of the woman question and homosexual rights. At a time when the European capitalists were prosecuting homosexuals, the revolutionary Bolshevik regime that took power after the 1917 Russian Revolution laid the basis for the first time for real equality for women and eliminated all laws against homosexuality. As Dr. Grigorii Batkis, the director of the Moscow Institute of Social Hygiene, wrote:

“Concerning homosexuality, sodomy, and various other forms of sexual gratification, which are set down in European legislation as offenses against public morality—Soviet legislation treats these exactly the same as so-called ‘natural’ intercourse. All forms of sexual intercourse are private matters. Only when there’s use of force or duress, as in general when there’s an injury or encroachment upon the rights of another person, is there a question of criminal prosecution.”

While many of these emancipatory principles were later reversed as the Stalinist bureaucracy sought to entrench itself in the USSR—in part by reinforcing the family and traditional social values—they inform our Marxist approach. For us the guiding principle for sexual relations is that of effective consent, meaning mutual agreement and understanding, as opposed to coercion. As long as those who take part agree to do so at the time, no one, least of all the state, has the right to tell them they can’t do it.

Under capitalist rule, gays in Iraq will never realize the rights that their counterparts have gained in advanced bourgeois societies. At the same time, such democratic gains in the West are not only partial, but also reversible. Bible bigots, “family values” crusaders and other reactionaries serve to ensure that homosexuals in the U.S. and other Western countries continue to face violence, persecution and abrogation of their rights.

In terms of Iraq—a country forcibly cobbled together by British imperialism and populated by historically hostile ethnic and religious groups that are themselves further riven by clan and tribal rivalries—there is no basis for stable bourgeois-democratic rule. With their enormous social contradictions, Iraq and the Near East more generally present a powerful argument for Leon Trotsky’s theory of permanent revolution, which found living confirmation in the Bolshevik Revolution. Trotsky’s theory holds that in those countries where capitalism emerged belatedly, the tasks historically associated with the bourgeois-democratic revolutions of the 17th and 18th centuries can be carried out only under the class rule of the proletariat. Liberation from the imperialist yoke, which exacerbates backwardness and reaction, and the equitable resolution of the democratic rights of all peoples of Iraq and the region more broadly can be achieved only through the overthrow of capitalist rule in the region and the establishment of a socialist federation of the Near East.

While proletarian rule will do much to end the oppression of women and homosexuals, routing the reactionaries, the final eradication of oppression cannot be realized before the family is replaced in a communist society. To finally arrive at classless communism requires the destruction of capitalist imperialism as a world system and the establishment of a world socialist division of labor, leading to a tremendous leap in the productive forces that can provide material plenty for all. Our task is to build revolutionary workers parties of the Bolshevik type that will act as tribunes of the people, defenders of all the oppressed, leading the fight for world socialist revolution, laying the material basis for the eradication of the oppression of women and gays.

Producing a Moon Shadow

The above link contains information about the NASA mission to try and find water on the moon. If there are usable amounts of water it would pave the way for humans to return to the moon and make a lunar base and exploration of the solar system a reality.

Contrary to media reports this is not a bombing of the moon. Kinitic energy will be used to produce a plume. A probe will then fly by to meassure possible water hidden under the surface. It should be noted that all the craters we see on ths rock we call the moon were placed there by impacts of other rocks that crash there naturally. So ignore the hysteria of people who claim ths has anything to do with bombs or the military. IMHO this is a good use of science and technology not to mention good use of our taxes.

If you know anybody who owns a telescope you may be able to see the efects of the impact as it happens next month. It may not be as spectacular or as the faboulous hit on the asteroid in 2004, but it still should be quite a show.

I am sending good energy to the folks at NASA for a direct hit on our favorite space rock.

Health Care Is A Right!

Health care is right of all citizens. Currently in the U.S. health care is rationed on worst possible basis- the ability to pay. Sign the petition to support a health care plan with a public option. Sign to make it happen this year. We will have universal health care in America it is not a matter of if it is a question of when.

Why doesn’t the United States have universal health care as a right of citizenship? The United States is the only industrialized nation that does not guarantee access to health care as a right of citizenship. 28 industrialized nations have single payer universal health care systems, while 1 (Germany) has a multipayer universal health care system like President Clinton proposed for the United States.

So if you see something that needs attention (garbage needs taken out, a mess in the parking lot that has been there for three days etc.), don't just trip on down the trail like it's some other queen's job. Take the initiative!

• FUN-Raisers: Organize delightful events to raise energy and money for the gathering and the Sanctuary.
• Kitchen Queens: Help the kitchen flow smoothly. Plan menus, help with ordering, manage the kitchen, support the cooks.
Ideally shared by several people. Be Kitchen Queen for a Day!
• Flowmeister: Help people hook up with jobs needing to be done. Be the logistical lubricant that makes the whole gathering run smoothly.
• Transportation Coordinator: Organize rides to & from Greyhound Grants Pass, Medford airport, Klamath Falls train station, and beyond.
• Zombie Surgeon General: Make sure the first aid kits are stocked and organize other Zombie Nurses (first aid / emergency response).
At the Gathering (see the Barn door for signups):
• Registration: Hang out at the Kiosk or the Barn to greet and orient new arrivals.
• Templekeepers: Help clean and tend the Garden House, Barn, and Temple of Love
• Firewood Czar: Organize woodcutting parties while looking all butch with a chainsaw.
• Fire Tenders: Help with firewood and keep our tribal fires burning.
• Cooks: Sign up with a couple of friends to cook a meal. Nourish your Faerie kin and make their tummies happy.
• Dishwashers: Dishwashers eat first and get blowjobs.
• Garden/Greenhouse: The Sanctuary can always use help with permaculture projects. Please check with land fae before helping out.
• Ritual Planning: Help hold the container and guide the energy for our communal magic.
• Shitter Patrol: Keep our trusty shitters clean and well-stocked. A humble yet vital job.
• Trash Hauler: Carry trash and recycling off the Land so we leave ZERO TRASH FOOTPRINT.
• Zombie Nurses: Be a clear and grounded presence to safeguard your fellow Faeries.

Some thoughts on Dogs (and other familiars)
Dogs roaming free can cause problems for the gathering.
No matter how lovely and well-behaved your dog may be, a pack of uncontrolled dogs on the land tends to bark, fight, poop, and sometimes bite.
They harass the land chickens and chase away wildlife.
For the comfort and safety of all, we ask:
PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG TO THE GATHERING.

Legalize Hemp and Cannabis in California

"And if my words did glow, with the gold of sunshine. And if my tunes were played on the harp unstrung..." Please help these words to ripple... ripple becomes a wave... wave becomes a tsunami... pretty soon my priests/priestesses are out of jail.

Right now there are two competing signature drives to put Cannabis legalization initiatives on the ballot in California in November 2010.

One is found at www.taxcannabis2010.org

The other is found at www.CaliforniaCannabisInitiative.org

Please look carefully at the text of both laws (the text of each is finalized) and make up your own mind which one you support.

I am supporting www.CaliforniaCannabisInitiative.org because our law will protect Cannabis users from discrimination in

healthcare, employment, and housing. It is a full legalization measure for industrial hemp and recreational cannabis which will restore full human rights to Hemp farmers and Cannabis users all across California. Of course supplying Cannabis to children will remain illegal just as it is today. Driving vehicles under the influence will remain illegal just as it is today. Cannabis users will still be fired from their jobs if they show up to work impaired.

There are two parts to our plan. The first part is to publicly post and personally distribute our "Freedom Lover's Call to Arms" in order to recruit volunteers. This document is available here-

The second part of our plan is to ask everyone who volunteers to make a pledge for how many signatures they can collect in

the next 30 days or so. 15-30 signatures is a good number. If enough volunteers show this level of commitment we can succeed. You can probably get that number from your family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors without having to solicit in public too much. This is an "out of the closet" movement. We will have to proudly advocate human rights for responsible, honest, hard-working Cannabis smokers in order to convince legitimate people to support us. I can supply stickers equivalent to each persons pledge number. These stickers can be used to generate interest and be given to voters who sign the petition. Here is the sticker design-

We have 145 days in order to get the number of signatures that we need. Our petition is hot off the press on 9/11 and we

have started collecting the first signatures yesterday 9/12.

We are polling 56% public support for Cannabis legalization in California which menas that this is an initiative which is not doomed. Its time has finally arrived; we are at the tipping point right now. Now is the time to do this and to do it right. We may only get one chance. If a law which is not exactly what we want is implemented then we may lose our critical mass and our ability to set it right.

I believe that less adults will smoke cannabis after it is legal. This is the case in the Netherlands where it has been

available over-the-counter for 30 years yet only half as many citizens (percentage-wise) smoke as do citizens here. My economics professor has taught for years that prohibition has not succeeded in decreasing usage by increasing penalties. Instead it has destroyed lives and families without substantial benefit to society. After legalization hard-drug usage will decrease due to a "separation of the markets," a decline in the price of Cannabis relative to hard-drugs, and the restoration of honesty and common sense in drug education. Violence, thievery, and the incarceration of honest people will decrease as well. I also believe that a well regulated market will decrease the availability and appeal of cannabis to children. In fact teenage Cannabis use in California has fallen steadily since the passage of Proposition 215. Furthermore the adults who smoke Cannabis after legalization will be better able appreciate the majesty of nature in peace and unity without learning to fear and disrespect authority figures. This will be better for their spirits and better for society. Finally the human rights of legitimate medical Cannabis patients will be better protected than they are today. Legalizing Cannabis will create a safer, healthier, and more humane California for us all to live in.

Need a Place for the winter near SF

Hey, faeries.

My partner Harlan and I are coming to the California Bay Area this fall, and we are trying to find a place to stay through the winter.

Most important is that we find a place to stay for little or no rent -- we're in the middle of a big transition in our lives, and we're looking for some time and space to figure out what comes next for us. We are very happy to discuss things like work trade, non-monetary exchanges, caretaking/house-sitting situations, and the like. We are not at all picky about amenities, and don't mind considering any sort of unusual situation. Hoping to be close to the urb, but willing to think about rural locales too.

We are hoping to find a place to stay through the end of the winter, but really, we're interested to hear about anything people might have to offer. I think that we're both pretty awesome (but that's my take), and could truly use some help in the next few months in order to gather ourselves for lives of being more in service to our community and our planet. There are a number of people who could act as character refs for us if you don't know us personally -- just ask.

October 2 to 4, San Francisco

This call goes out to Radical Faeries to join together in San Francisco this October 2 to 4, 2009, to invigorate and inspire each other and to help lay the way for Radical Faeries around the world to achieve higher levels of awareness and cooperative action.

In honour of the 30th anniversary of the first national Radical Faerie gathering in 1979, we are gathering together once again to reflect upon and celebrate our hirstory, accomplishments and creative genius.

We are planning a gorgeous event of sharing information, thought-provoking ideas and reflections, and scrumptious entertainment. Last year’s FAEposium was intellectually juicy and gorgeously fun. We think this year’s event is not to be missed!

This, our second annual FAEposium, is no stodgy academic conference, but a mixture of faerie performance, inspirational papers, thought-provoking panels and lively discussions. We take as our model the classical Greek Symposia which were a mix of philosophical thought, entertainment, laughter, feasting, and propitiation of the gods.

What topic are you passionate for our community to talk about? Submit a proposal to facilitate that conversation! We’re interested in whatever creative ideas, wisdom or performative genius you would like to offer to the greater faerie community. We are not terribly impressed by academic credentials, but we are impressed by new ideas, provocative propositions, entertaining presentation styles, and thinking that may affect the development of our community and its future.

Performances

We invite live performances that offer more than art for art’s sake (or camp for camp’s sake)—we want to encourage thoughtful performances that engage and inspire the audience through their content, beauty or complexity.

Workshops, Panels and Presentations

These offer an opportunity to discuss and record our history; explore ideas that you feel passionate about that would be of interest or benefit to the Radical Faerie Community; examine issues confronting the Radical Faerie movement at this critical time; consider ways in which Radical Faeries in urban and rural settings can develop new gatherings and create new sanctuaries; provide venues for skill-sharing of many different types; explore the most pressing needs facing Faerie sanctuaries to help insure their strong future.

The FAEposium is a chance to share our collective and individual wisdom, and creative genius with the larger faerie community and the rest of the world. If you care about where our community is, you probably have something to say and we want to help you express it... using presentation styles most comfortable and best suited to you. Presentations, papers, panels and performance might include a variety of performance approaches, multimedia presentation, spoken word, music, drag, dance, new ideas and provocative propositions.... anything that gets us thinking, feeling and ready to move forward!

During the FAEposium, we’ll honor the gods and goddesses at a Radical Faerie Bacchanal with libations, bangin’ tunes, lovely food and much good conversation stimulated by all that has come before. Afterwards, we will honor Hestia by cleaning up after ourselves. We very much hope you can join us.

Documentation & reflection, creating a rich and varied snapshot, a mirror for us and a place for future Radical Faeries to look back at, is part of this year's Faeposium vision. We welcome you to join us in this process.

Naked Empire Bouffon Company is proud to present the world premiere of SHAME! at Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory, August 20-29th, 2009. Featuring four Queer performance artists who deform their bodies into grotesque anti-clowns, this original production lambastes the hypocrisies, hierarchies and happiness of Queer San Francisco. NEBC invites you to an unflattering celebration of pride that asks: Does a mecca of Queer support and safety also create a culture of complacency? How might a liberation-seeking community contribute to their own oppression? Does pride eliminate shame? Charmingly obscene and dangerously perceptive, the cast of SHAME! sniffs out the possible answers to these questions through cutting satire, virtuosic physicality and a no-holds-barred relationship with the audience.

“They’re not out to pass judgment,” explains Artistic Director Nathaniel Justiniano, “but they’re bursting to play with repression, shame, and all things taboo.” Based in the European physical theatre tradition of bouffon, this fearless ensemble creates an evening of vulgar vaudeville with piercing honesty. SHAME! interweaves ecstatic rituals, parody, direct audience interaction, song, and extreme physical comedy. From Castro queens to kinky fems, from the apathetic to the ultra-empowered, the bouffons make fun of the audience and their values by holding a magnifying glass up to stereotypes and social norms. “If we don’t offend you, then we haven’t done our job,” insists Justiniano.

A new voice in the San Francisco theatre world, Naked Empire Bouffon Company combines social activism with grotesque satire in original, actor-created bouffon performances for the stage and street. For this inaugural performance a Queer-identified ensemble was gathered to explore shame as the root of the Queer subconscious. Through community story circles, personal analysis, interviews and field research, the cast mined the tumultuous experience of shame in their daily lives both as participants and observers. Content for the show was then developed through extensive improvisations where the bouffons were given free reign to exploit and make games of the darkest and most embarrassing aspects of everyday Queer happenings.

They also took to the streets almost getting arrested at Pride for harassment and misconduct in the port-o-potties, thrown out of a Queer fundraiser at El Rio, and attacked by angry parents at the SF Free Theater Festival. Deliberate social transgression has already earned them some impassioned crowds, so how far will these bouffons take it when they let loose on the stage at Mama Calizo’s?

09 Faerie Freedom Village (call for Circle)

Dear J Rhett Aultman,
(this is a 2 part letter , 1st part directly to J Rhett Aultman, 2nd to the Pride Committee and the Bay Area Radical Faeries)

1) I want to first apologize for J Rhett Aultman's experience at Faerie Freedom Village. I do not excuse the actions of those (some of which are not Faeries) that took energy instead of giving it back by Jacking off for the cameras. We had various situations to deal with that day, including rowdy drunk people, belligerent homeless, and rude gawkers. These people were not on the Faerie Village team, did not rent the space, set up the space or help clean up. As the Manager of Faerie village, I should have taken more time to recruit monitors to help manage the onslaught of people who often just walk in without any connection to the faerie community. I am not Putting Blame on anyone but myself for not asking for more crowd control help. I want to apologize for the resulting staff shortages, which impacted our ability to manage the crowds that visited our space.
This was my first year as the manager of Faerie Freedom Village and unfortunately learned some very hard lessons. One is that some Faeries can be very Flaky, I had multiple people that had said they would help with preparations(such as making signs etc) and with tear down. Unfortunately many of those folks did not show up until it was time to have fun, Managing Faeries is like herding Cats. Although I want to personally accept responsibility, I had great intentions that did not all become a reality.
I do want you to know that I was actively trying to stop the exhibitionist guys and encourage them to move away from the view of people. They have been disrupting Faerie Village for several years now. Last Year I was working as Security inside Faerie Village and had several confrontations with more than one individual. When I realized that one of the main guys is straight, not of our community and an exhibitionist, that made me even more uncomfortable. His responses were confrontational and unreasonable.
Besides the fact that I was multitasking (Manager, Decorator, Security, Putting out emotional Fires Etc) this is the First year that Faerie Village (I specifically) called the Cops in on those guys. The main guy refused to respect my warnings and so I called the Cops in, after all by doing what they were doing they were representing Faerie Village and I have had enough of it personally.
The guy hid when the cops were there, and when the cops left I found him and had an uncomfortable situation where he argued with me grabbed me and I had to tell him to let me go. This is a person who has never been to a Faerie Gathering or Circle he shows up every year and takes his clothes off and starts jacking off for the cameras. Well I warned him that I was calling the cops back over and he tried to get away by jumping over the fence, little did he know (I might be a fag but I am still scrappy) I jumped over the fence and followed him while on the radio telling safety I was on his tail and needed cops to meet me so he could be arrested. Fortunately for me he went in the direction of two cops and since I had my security shirt, badge, and radio I just shouted to the cobs to stop him and arrest him, they took our names, and lets just say that that particular guy will never be at the Village again if he does try to enter next year he will be Arrested on the spot.
That does not excuse the lack of village monitors; I personally want to apologize for that and hope that this experience won't sour your thoughts on the San Francisco Faeries. It is a shame that the actions of a few people can have such a negative impact on a group that is trying to have some Spiritual Change and not just Sexual liberation. I have some great Ideas for how to not have this happen again and look forward to that Change.
Again I just want to reach out to show you these things are being addressed and not just ignored, and I hope you will contact me if you would like to chat further about the Village. Below is the second part of the letter that I invite you to read.

2) This next part of the letter I want to Address The Radical Faerie Community & the SF Pride Committee, by presenting some possibilities future Change in order to make Faerie Village a more safe and comfortable space. Like I said, I learned some hard lessons this year and realize why most of the managers over the years have only done it one year or two before they pass on the torch. I think its because it's a lot for one person or even a few. We did have many people do fabulous things to support community space at Faerie Freedom Village, including the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, who gave us a grant, Spirneena, who stayed with me through all of take down to the bitter end, and many others that created Magic in the space. I have to say that it takes a Community to really create safe space. I am choosing to not give up but learn from the mistakes and Create something better for our future.
I think we can do this by recruiting more Faerie leaders to help manage the village, and by changing our gate procedure. We need to pull together as community and start having Circles/Meetings about FFV. I am asking for at least 10 committed people for next year, and circles Will be Required. Also, we can not continue to hold safe space at Pride without changing our Gate policy. We can do this without making it "Private or Faeries only", which in the past has been a concern by both the Pride committee and
Faeries. I personally had to deal with several ugly and uncomfortable intruders into Faerie Village (beyond rude straight exhibitionists, drunk people, Thieves, people with negative energy and the endless gawkers that treat FFV like a petting Zoo).

After living for 13 years of my life in queer intentional community where we had Faerie gatherings, I have learned that creating safe space can be a lot of work. I will not just bow out because of negative experiences; I would rather work toward recruiting others to collaborate together. I am not talking about people putting their two cents in and only showing up that day to the party. If we want to make choices about how FFV is run, we should be ready to commit to a monthly Circle (and potluck of course). I have already got 2 people as of today, So I don't think its going to be that difficult to recruit more people interested in creating positive Change at Faerie Village.
I think I have also figured out a way to cut down on the endless traffic and have a clearer Faerie Intention, while addressing the Pride Committees concerns that FFV not become a Private or Faeries only space. First off I just want to say, there is the VIP Pride party and not just any Homeless person or Drunk can just wander into the Party. I think it is also perfectly reasonable for the Faeries to want to control the flow of people into the space we are Creating. This is a security issue. J Rhett Aultman's letter should prompt us to spend more energy on creating greater intention around shared community space. With the current setup anyone can just walk in, even if they have allot of negative, disruptive attitude.

Here's a different approach. At most parties or clubs you have to have a stamp or a wristband. I suggest a wristband for the Faeries Friends and Others that might be entering the village. This wristband could freely be given as part of a welcoming ritual where interested people are saged or smudged as they are greeted with intention. Disruptive people are not going to want to wait in line for this, but those who feel a sincere call to be part of our community will be patient as we welcome them individually.
If all the Faeries and Friends we know get the wristbands beforehand, those who already connect to the community will easily enter. Otherwise you will be greeted, and asked open-ended questions, like "What are your intentions for FFV, What are you letting go of before you enter FFV, What are you Bringing to FFV" or something like this. A dash of glitter & you're on your way. This will definitely limit the flow of Gawkers, Drunks, etc. seeing that it might take a while for people to enter and I bet many people will choose to go other places rather than wait in a line.
I am open to discussing all the many ways we could work together to create a better space for the community in Faerie Freedom Village 2010. If we have a crew of folks to help then we can do all kinds of wonderful things. Please feel free to contact me; I am very interested in what others have to say, and look forward to creating a healing loving supportive Circle to support the future.

I'm writing to you today to invite your comments on some events I
witnessed at the SF Pride 2009 event. I sincerely hope that this letter
will be received in the spirit of honest and productive criticism in which
it is being written.

First, I would like to state that SF Pride 2009 truly impressed me. As a
recent transplant from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, itself a place with an
entrenched and active LGBT community, I was greatly anticipating SF Pride
2009. I could never have imagined its sheer enormity, though, and for the
most part, it was an event that nearly defied my ability to contextualize
it. This is in no small part due to the diligent efforts of a steering
committee that works tirelessly for its community.

I was, however, both surprised and disappointed by events I witnessed in
the Faerie Village pavilion. My partner and I had stopped by Faerie
Village because we have a background in Paganism and appreciate the spirit
of art and play so frequently embodied by those who practice Faerie
traditions. What we found when we were there, however, was a significant
number of men openly masturbating or engaged in other sexual activity,
some of them for audiences who were taking a large number of pictures. My
partner and I are both members of the sex-positive community in Seattle,
and so while we are not troubled by overt sexuality, we were still quite
shocked.

We were shocked because the description of Faerie Village contained no
explicit warning that people entering the space would be exposed to public
sexual activity. We were further shocked that there was nobody at the
entrance to the area to check IDs, confirm only adults were in the space,
and to warn people of what they might encounter. This, of course, creates
the issue of minors being exposed to public sexual activity. It also is
not in the spirit of sex-positive culture, as there was no way for us, as
guests, to have provided informed consent. We also saw no indications
that the cleanliness of the area was of concern, which itself can lead to
concerns about health and safety where open sex is being practiced.

Furthermore, we found ourselves seriously concerned over the possibility
that any of the people with cameras could have been a member of a group
seeking to undermine GLBT equality. As you are no doubt aware, a critical
argument for groups which oppose our equality is that GLBT people are
psychologically perverse, and capturing photographic evidence of men
masturbating in public at SF Pride 2009 would be an excellent way to
perpetuate such a myth. It certainly doe pose a challenge to argue for
the normalcy of all GLBT people when a flagship GLBT event includes sexual
activity on the lawn of the UN building.

We are new to the Bay Area and thus thought we should seek the opinion of
SF Pride. Is this a regular and endorsed practice as part of SF Pride
celebrations, or is this an oversight in what was an otherwise amazing
celebration of the LGBT community? Does SF Pride leadership agree with
our view that the activities in the Faerie Village were problematic and,
if so, what steps will you be taking to curtail these issues further?

for taking on the unbelievably difficult task of arranging an event of
this scope. I look forward to your correspondence and would like to
continue my participation in Bay Area GLBT activities in the future.

Summer finds us with exploration, resilient energy and joy in our hearts though many may not feel as such after the events of the past week. Astrologically and collectively we experienced huge shifts and rifts along with the passing of many major public figures which sent shock-waves through us all. These few individuals had made a huge impact on the world and left people with memories of their talent that will stay with them through this life and beyond. Michael Jackson, Farha Fosset, and Ed McMahon have been in the public eye for quite sometime now and have contributed to the development and space in which we inhabit today. Without them we’d have no Thriller, Charlie’s Angeles, Tonight Show and much more. People are at a loss this week at the tragedy of the passing of these icons.

People are born, die and resurrect daily and its important for us to transform these feelings of hurt into inspiration to live our lives. These few individuals were trendsetters, movers and shakers of the world and have become house hold names. We ask now who’s next? Who can fill the shoes of these superstars and go beyond them to the next levels of existence and global transformation. Is it you?

Lapis Lazuli

What a beautiful morning and day it is today. This week finds us with optimism but there is much that seems to shadow this feeling, cloud our minds and tries to lock down our soul. When we see this happening we must realize we are the great liberator because we have been created with the power of choice. If we see something not working internally, within our network of close friends or even the world at large we can take the steps to remedy a situation for the highest good. What needs to be done first is cut through the fears and fog in order to see clearly and know which way we need to go in order to make the choices best for us and the collective at large. How do we do this? We know what its like to drive through fog at night. The car flies through the grey dense air but we have to be careful for we do not know what is coming up ahead until its practically on top of us. If we decided to turn on the high beams in order to make things clearer it in fact has the opposite affect and we lose sight of our direction. When we tap into the energy of the lapis we are able to direct a slight beam through all the muck and emerge at the shore and our destination.

Lapis is found many countries around the world and is know as the stone of enlightenment and protection. It harmonizes our being and cuts through the subconscious blockages. This stone activates the throat, third eye, stimulates brain activity and clarity of thought. It makes us turn inward in order to realize our inner resources to amplify creative expression without limits. It has us integrate our truth while allowing unreleased fears to surface and be communicated. For when we hold onto these feelings they mutate and fester to provide a unhealthy energetic and physical body. As we open up our internal universe we can express it to the external we strengthen our relationships and honor the true power of Oneness.

WORKSHOP – INTRODUCTION TO BOUFFON

In the realm of bouffon, the audience is the joke. Their greatest joy is to make fun of the audience, its values and flaws. This pack of grotesque outsiders engages in a direct relationship with the spectators using intelligence, charm, and an ecstatic sense of play. To play as bouffon is to celebrate contrast and paradox. They hate you, yet they flatter you. Hideously deformed yet beautiful, wickedly insane yet prophetic, bouffons explode with joy and mockery and create ferocious social satire. No one is safe. In this workshop participants will explore:

-Discovering the body and mind of your bouffon

-Playing upon contrasts of state and rhythm

-Connecting with the audience

-Being 100% present and captivating

-Parodying societal maladies and hypocrisies

This workshop is in preparation for Naked Empire Bouffon Company’s inaugural production, San Francisco Blows, a grotesque satire of the queer community, that will premiere at Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory August 20-29th. It is free, but space is limited. You must RSVP with Artistic Director, Nathaniel Justiniano by Saturday, May 23rd in order to attend. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate walk-ins.

This is also an audition opportunity. We are seeking a female physical theatre performer to be our 5th cast member. As this is a production ‘by, for, and about’ the queer community, the actress must identify as non-straight. She does not need previous experience with bouffon but must be comfortable with improvisation and intense physical performance. Each performer will be a co-creator of this new work. Nathaniel Justiniano has been a professional actor and director for 10 years and he is a DIY Artist-in-Residence at Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory, one of the city’s most popular new centers for queer and activist performance. He holds an MFA in Ensemble-Based Physical Theater from Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater, North America’s center for the research, training, and performance of the actor/creator, where he collaborated or led the creation of nineteen new productions for the stage in a two and a half year period. In 2007 he co-created Pax Americana, a satire of war as seen through the lens of United States history and EUOI!, a bouffon experiment in ecstatic ritual. More recently, he performed with the SF Buffoons in their productions of The Hasheesh Eater and Spunk, a satire of gold rush-era San Francisco. Mr. Justiniano has also been a professional community organizer and educator for GLBT youth empowerment programs for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and the LA Gay & Lesbian Center, as well as a program manager for community-based theater initiatives out of the National Conference for Community & Justice and Cornerstone Theater Company.

The improved Earth Activist Training (EAT) Permaculture Demonstration Bus (Permibus II) is on the road, visiting communities nationwide, in order to offer you and your community practical skills to help you wrest control of your life from corporate hands. The PermiBus is a 36-foot mobile permaculture demonstration project in progress; complete with solar power, greywater system, herb garden, composting toilet, three dogs, a clutch of chickens, and a box of worms. The Skills for the New Millennium Tour offers programs to anyone who wants to host a Skills Event: individuals, community groups, high schools, colleges, intentional communities.... Well hello folks, This years Pride we are planning to have several events for Fay folks to gather at. Kind of a City Farie Gathering as it were. Such as having a stage at Pink Saturday and a Tea party in the plaza on the Saturday before pride. And Various Brunches and evening events. I am compiling events and making an event calendar for Fairys (notice how I change the spelling of Feries allot, kinda like some change their names) There are several things needed but mostly we just need each other to get together and make our lives more fabulous. Here is a list of some of those things.

Musicians
Decorators and Set up
People for Security (yes our own Homoland Security)
People to help with food
People for Clean up and Take down.

There are other things needed also such as materials for decorating the village, did you know they charge us around 1200 dollars for the privacy fencing alone...... HELLLLO We are fay folks I am sure we can find a way to cut the cost and find fabulous materials to hide our village and make it cute. I don't need to talk about how much they wanted to charge for everything we have rented in past years (I went through and made cutbacks that were not necessary) But folks we can make magic happen without having to Rent tents and several other things that we ourselves can produce at 1 fourth the cost. So I am putting out a call lets make FFV feel like a magical world this year.
Anyway summer is coming. I invite anyone that wants to help with Gay Pride FFV to please contact me and just tell me what you would like to participate in. I am going to be the Manager of Fairie Freedom Village this year and there will be allot going on. Fairy Freedom Village is the only space at Gay Pride that doesn't have any buying or selling of products, there are no referendums to sign, or anyone to vote for, or anything to register to vote for, in fact Its main purpose is to be a space where we can just celebrate together.

I'm coming to san fran next week, feb 9-11 and am looking for others to met. Sierra also worked here last year and he really turned me on to the faerie community. I am going to school and as part of my queer culture class i have to choose a group or person that i admire, but know little about and explore them. Q. What is this all about?

A. The concept is simple: bring the various segments of the bay area
faerie community together, create a warm seasonal tradition filled
with feasting, performance, dancing, ritual & merriment, and raise
funds (!!) to support our shared faerie community spaces. It's not
a sex party, but something that the general community can attend as
a faerie showcase event. A big bash that goes back to our roots to
show people another way of doing things in this modern Post-Christian
age. Something that celebrates the sun's return….

Q. A benefit on Solstice? Raising funds for what exactly?

A. Building Faerie Community. LITERALLY… We're talking about
expanding physical infrastructure!

Last year that meant raising over six thousand dollars, matched by a
private donor to become a $12k to help SMS purchase an adjacent land
parcel & expand the sanctuary. This year there are 4 proposed
solstice beneficiary projects that will jointly benefit from this
event, to be discussed & finalized at the Solstice Planning Meeting.
All proceeds minus costs will go to the following:

(1) Raven's Crossing: building a floor in the new community event
space, the Long House. Estimated Materials Cost: $1,000

(2) Wolf Creek: building the long-awaited bath house! Total needed:
$10-15k. Solstice Goal: at least $1000, more if extra successful

(3) Comfort & Joy: silence the generators by going 100% Solar energy

Seeking Gay Male Participants for Research on Spirituality and Homosexuality

My name is Hayden Reynolds. I am spiritual, a gay man, and a graduate student at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, CA. I am conducting research in fulfillment of my Ph.D.

The research centers on the stories of men who believe that their gayness is integral to their spiritual development. I will be interviewing gay men about a time in their life when their understanding of their gayness shifted from being solely physical to having spiritual meaning as well.

Being involved in research of this nature can be highly beneficial. Participants will be asked to reflect on their spiritual development and on their gayness. This kind of introspection gives you the opportunity to see where you have come from and can help you to see where you may be going. The time commitment is less than 5 hours, which are broken into separate time blocks for the smaller tasks of the research. The longest of the blocks is less than 2 hours.

You will be a great candidate if you…

• live in the San Francisco Bay Area

• are biologically male

• identify as gay

• are on a conscious spiritual development path

• have made a shift in understanding about your gayness from being solely physical to also spiritual in nature.

• are able to identify and speak about the period of time when the shift was most present in your life.

Blanch Did~ya hear? here is my report of what happened...

An historic event happened on Sunday night. (nov 9th)

There was a “Special Meeting” of The Church Of Nomenus...
under the auspices of “electing a new Corporate Secretary“ for the church.

I must say, that I was not actually Notified of the meeting ... no Phone Call, No Letter, No Notice to the CoCo list or Raddish. What I did See, was a Response from Jerry the Faerie posted to CoCo, who I asked: “what is the special meeting?” He said it was to elect a Corp Sec.

I Know that at least 4 members of the church (as of today) were Not notified at all.

2 days before the meeting, an automated message from CoCo list...
saying the usual coco meeting info, for conference call... I received No other notice.

When we all showed up for the conference call, it turned out, that the first order of the business, was first to Silence me in Process... (wow Bold. you might even say Brazen ) but they still would let me be a ‘member‘.

When it was pointed out that this was against the by-laws... the next proposal was to excommunicate me, apparently in the “consensus minus one” Mode (*since I was no longer allowed to speak on my own behalf...) when my Brother Rick protested and stated his reservation... (Just as we were approaching the ‘stand aside’ portion of the consensus process regarding my expulsion from my church) the proposal was Modified to INCLUDE Rick’s excommunication as well !

*( since I was not allowed to voice my concern I will list it here ...that if this was allowed to happen to me, that there would be others who would be next... and it would be a bad representation of our process to those who did not know better).

Rick was excommunicated as well. ? for failure to capitulate to the mob. ?
presumable the first time in Fae History that a DEFACTO “Consensus minus 2” process was ever used.
(will it be “consensus minus 3...4...5” the next time?)

Now the Mob (many, I have Never heard of ... or ever seen in the process, in all the years I have defended it) became the ‘majority rule’ to ‘tyrannize the minority‘. The total Opposite of what I was taught ‘Fae’ (and Subject/SUBJECT consciousness ) meant.

A Sad Day for Faerie History.

There were so many violations of the bi laws...
Starting with:
~Not notifying at LEAST 4 members, that there would even be a meeting... (4 that I know of, maybe more)...

~Not PUBLISHING the intent to have the meeting. (anywhere...) or what it was to be about (other than the election of a Secretary Presumably) .

~Then the violation of how we make decisions...
By baring Rick from standing against it
Then modifying the ‘proposal’ while call for consensus had already started on another proposal, to include his excommunication as well, for defending my rights..

Rick called it a “Witch Hunt” ... Random clarified that it was a “Kangaroo court“.

All Rick and I are guilty of ... (despite the claims of the active Champaign, to slander us, in order to drive us out) is to try and maintain the spirit of Fae Process ~egalitarian ~Non hierarchal Process...

Now the mob has Ruled and Rulla now is “Ruler“...
(Someone actually ‘Slipped’ in the meeting and called her “Ruler”, wow that speaks volumes.. )

Be clear that Great Circle (last) mandated that there would be a mediation with Rick, Rula, Maggot, Iz, and my self... Rick and I repeatedly inquired about this since GC... and was told over and over, that it was “not yet the right time“. Rick and I did not ask for that ... but Now, it looks like we will be denied that process as well.

Please understand that this is totally about a (not so) Hidden agenda to Sweep away the last resistance to making the Sanctuary and the Church a Pangender org... and to put an end to Faggot Sanctuary.

As many of you know... Rick and I have fought the good fight and have spoken to Many of you who encouraged us to fight the fight, to save Faggot Sanctuary... we have apparently lost the battle. The land will be next.

It was an Honor to Serve...
Now I Know how Joan of Ark fealt. (Lol)

The amazing John Burnide has died

John Burnside died quietly at his home on Sunday, September 14th, at 5:45 pm. He was surrounded by the Circle of Loving Companions, a group of Radical Faeries that took care of him in the final years of his life.

John was one of the founders of the Radical Faeries, a gay movement pioneer, an inventor, a dancer, and the loving partner of Harry Hay for 40 years.

There is a spontaneous memorial altar for John at Bank of America at the corner of 18th Street and Castro. Please feel free to bring additions to the altar.

A memorial to celebrate the life of John Burnside is being planned for the future.

Good Guy in Bay Area needs temporary housing

Dear Rad Fae and other gay spiritual folks of the Bay Area,

I am a kindred spirit. I am probably a radical faerie although I have not attended any events.

I am a very spiritual gay man. I am doing service and activism for spiritual gay men everywhere through the completion of my dissertation, and now I need some help.

I need a temporary place to live for August and September.

My landlady lost her house in June, and I've been in temporary housing that ends soon. My boyfriend and I are moving in together in October. So I need a place for 2 months.

Two difficulties are: 1. I need to save money for the permanent place in October. 2. I have two feline familiars that accompany me wherever I go.

In addressing issue 1, I am willing and able to perform service in exchange for housing.

My friends and former housemate can verify my good heartedness, and all around even keel.

I hope either you, the reader, or someone you may know can help me out.

I need a place as close to San Francisco as I can get (Peninsula, San Fran, East Bay), and I need a place starting Friday, August 1.

The logging situation at Wolf Creek and what to do about it

Hi-

There is a proposed timber project on the hills above the Sanctuary at Wolf Creek by the BLM (Bureau of Land Management, or Bureau of Large Mistakes). The link for it is here: www.blm.gov/or/districts...lfPupScop.pdf

The proposed logging area is in the entire watershed above the Sanctuary property. This includes our water rights on a small tributary of Wolf Creek (which we call the Spring System). The water right will probably have the most impact in determining the actions that the BLM ultimately takes concerning the proposed management activity.

NOTE: The State, which grants water rights, had no knowledge of our water right in planning the proposed State logging sale last year. Two different offices – Forestry and DEQ, and they appear not to be in sync. FOR SURE, BLM has no record of our water right. Spiral is going to send them a copy of it.

The plan is not just about logging. Included in it are some actions that will benefit the watershed. From my reading of the proposal, there are a couple worth mentioning. First of all is the lessening of fire danger. People may have forgotten, but there was a major forest fire that was totally out of control for several weeks less than 30 miles from the Sanctuary, the Biscuit Fire in 2002. It was huge – burning in a mosaic pattern over parts of a hundred square mile area.

At least in part, the Fire spread due to fire prevention in the last century. Historically forests had small, low level ground fires every 10 – 20 years. Since the complete suppression of all fires, the ground level fires have not burned out all of the plants that would have been removed naturally. This has led to a buildup of plants, all competing for sunlight and water, and creating a dangerous fire conditions. Stressed plants are more susceptible to fire, and there is a continuous “ladder” of fire fuel from the floor of the forest to the tops of the tallest trees.

This proposal seeks to address some of that by removing ladder fuels from the project area. On a side note, the areas in the Biscuit Fire that were managed in this way suffered less catastrophic effects than non-managed areas. The second benefit that I see is that ground water will increase in the watershed because the over-stocking of plants will be gone, and those areas of the watershed that need more water – riparian zones, fish, aquatic invertebrates – will have the water that would have been absorbed by the plants.

There are drawbacks to the proposal, too, and I am not trying to paint a two dimensional yes/no portrait of the plan. The phrase used the in the plan “overstory removal” means cutting the largest trees. In short, the BLM is trying to make some money from the sales. The contractors who bid on the sales from this project also are trying to make some money. Despite high lumber prices, that means taking a lot of big trees. And as cheaply as possible. This is a place where we can have some impact. There are several methods of logging mentioned in the plan. The cheapest is chain logging, where all the trees are dragged uphill, causing massive amounts of disturbance in steep slopes with erosive soil. A more benign way is to remove the trees by helicopter, which, of course, is very expensive.

It's not just the removal of trees that will affect the watershed, a more dangerous condition will be the erosion. Any benefit from having more water available would be more than wiped out by clogging it with tons of silt.

What can you do about this? Write a letter to the BLM. Ask a lot of questions – make THEM explain what the different types of logging are and how they affect the environment. Ask THEM what protections they will have for our water right. Be excruciatingly polite.

Or call them at 541-471-6505. If you call, I encourage you to write a letter also. Creating a written trail is vital in dealing with a bureaucracy such as the BLM. If even 10 letters needing replies are received, it will create a major headache in some Federal workers life, and have an impact in Agency decision making.

Remember it is not a done deal yet. The impact we can have on the eventual process will never be higher than it is at this moment. Fritz and I were pretty successful at stalling the proposed State logging project last year just by communicating with staff from their office.

Ride Available from Santa Cruz/SF Bay to Wolf Creek

hi all...

i'll be driving from santa cruz to wolf creek on july 18 or 19 for witchcamp, and leaving oregon to head back to SF/SC on august 3 or 4 after the permaculture skill share. i would love to fit as many people as possible in my car, both ways, and hopefully share the cost of gas. i can stop anywhere along the route to pick you up, especially if you live in the bay area, and have lots of room in my car for camping gear, etc. let me know if you're interested.

Looking for ride, or riders to Witch Camp at Wolf Creek.

Friday the 19th is when I plan on heading out and comming back the 27th (Sunday). If there is anyone who is driving that way and back then I would love to ride with you. If there are others who arelooking for a ride and are willing to split gas and such then I might be willing to drive if there isn't any other options for a ride.

Storm to Visit San Diego, Needs Hosting

Dearest Faeries,

Yours Truly is visiting San Diego for the very first time to attend
Comic Con but my hotel reservations have fallen through.

I am seeking a fab faerie or a friend of fab feys to stay with during
my time there. It would be helpful if they were located near the San
Diego Convention Center.

I arrive in San Diego on Wednesday the 23rd and leave Sunday the 27th,
so I will only require hosting for four nights.

If you know of anyone, please contact me, or pass my information on to
the appropriate persons.

8th Annual Shaman's Gathering....THE CALL

The 8th annual Queer Shamanism Gathering will be held between August 15th-24th, 2008 @ Zuni Mountain Sanctuary in northwestern New Mexico.

The Stewards of the sanctuary are putting out a call for energy assistance in this endeavor.

This years proposed and requested possibilities include -- Storytelling, Heart Sharing; Sweat Lodge; Positive Tea; Playback Theater; Acoustical Music Circle, Divination Studies, Desert Walkabouts / Visionquesting ; Massage, Energy Balancing, Claycrafting; Desert astronomy; entheogen discussion; body/energy playgroup; BDSM workshop, desert spirit rain dance; Morning/Evening Yoga; Incense Making; Herb Wildcrafting; Poetry ReadingRants, permaculture and various happening and on-going infrastructure projects.

A Know-Your-Talent Show Multi-Media Arts Exhibit is planned for the Wednesdays (in the middle of the happening) as a benefit for the sanctuary and the neighboring community. Help make this your gathering by letting us know where your interests are and how you would like to plug your energy into the mix.

Plenty of tenting areas are being prepared by faeries for camping on Camp Hill as well as more secluded permaculturely friendly areas on the land. The RV parking is also available for persuns wishing to camp nearer the road. Food and water will be provided by the sanctuary with vegetarian meals prepared and served by volunteer attendees. Please notify us of any dietary restrictions, allergies or other health concerns or with special needs we should know about.

*** To help cover the costs for this years event a suggested donation of 35/day per persun per day is requested - more if you can less if you cant; no one turned away for lack of funds. This year as in the past there will be also be study/actualization spaces for those seeking independent explorations.

Full or partial pre-registration funds would be most helpful. Checks can be paid to the order of Zuni Mountain Sanctuary and sent to us by snail mail care of ZMS attn: ShamGath 2008 PO Box 636 Ramah, NM 87321 Even if you are unable to prepay please notify the sanctuary to let us know if you are planning to attend.

--- IN YOUR REGISTRATION REPLY PLEASE INCLUDE --- How you want to be referenced - name and the best way to contact you; your estimated time of arrival in New Mexico -- also if you are driving to the sanctuary and need driving instructions or a map. Pick-ups from the bus/train/airport in Gallup or Albuquerque can be arranged, compensation for gas requested. Carpooling is also helpful so let someone know if you have extra room for sharing space with other travelers.

It is also proven helpful for visitors to have a persunal intention declared for themselves lending definition and structure to their time in space in the sanctuary during the gathering. Intentions can be general or specific but should allow for open-ended possibilities. Past experiences on the land indicate that in offering such a devotional pledge - such an act lends definition and measure to your experience and the ways in which we may better serve one another.

If hospitality is your scene you can contact the sanctuary to let us know your specialties. We always need crews for Cafeteria Committee, Kitchen Queens, HydroGrrls , Dish Dudes and Wood Tenderers. If you have any other skills or talents you would like to share let us know in advance so as to better accommodate your context for space and/or materials in which to honor your gifts.
